  You might remember that Elizabeth Rodwell Stokes was the daughter of Joseph Stokes, a London tailor, and she married John Plews from Wensleydale.  Back in the autumn we had a day out in London to go to the British Museum and while we were there we went to see Colville Place where Elizabeth was born in 1820 which is not far away.   It was then known as Colville Court, St. Pancras but the area is now known as Fitzrovia.  Amazingly No. 14 where they lived is still there (it is the house with the grey front door) and I took a couple of pictures.  The family earlier lived at No. 25 but that no longer exists as the end of the street was bombed in WW2.

 

The houses were built in 1766 and some were originally fitted out as shops which would make sense for Joseph’s occupation.
